“Best vs Soon Seng Credit — should I choose the North Bridge Road office, or the Chinatown lender with published rate information and Sunday hours?”
That question is more useful than simply asking which lender is “best”. The answer may depend on location, timing, the information you can review, the approved cost and whether the monthly repayment fits your circumstances.
Best may suit someone who prefers its North Bridge Road location and the clear application information on its current public site.
Soon Seng Credit may suit someone who values a Chinatown location or Sunday opening hours. Its personal-loan page also publishes a rate range.
Those are convenience and information differences. They do not prove that one lender is always cheaper, faster, safer or more suitable. The final decision should come from the amount you receive, the approved rate, permitted fees, instalments, total repayment and your ability to repay.
At the 27 August 2026 check, one detail stood out: the Ministry of Law Registry dated 1 August 2026 lists Soon Seng Credit Pte. Ltd. under licence 66/2026, while Soon Seng’s contact page displays 61/2025. Treat the Registry as the authority and check the current record before sharing personal information or visiting.
The most obvious difference is where you would go for the face-to-face part of the process.
The Ministry of Law Registry lists Best Licensed Moneylender at 13 North Bridge Road, #01-3984, Golden Beach Vista, Singapore 190013, under licence 48/2026. The same Registry lists Soon Seng Credit Pte. Ltd. at 1 Park Road, #01-21, People’s Park Complex, Singapore 059108, under licence 66/2026.
Soon Seng’s contact page describes its office as a five-minute walk from Chinatown MRT Exit C and lists opening hours of Monday to Saturday from 11am to 7.30pm and Sunday from 11am to 4.30pm, closed on public holidays. Best’s current public site lists its North Bridge Road office and Monday to Saturday hours of 11am to 7pm.
If Chinatown is easier for you, Soon Seng’s location may reduce travel. If North Bridge Road is more convenient, Best may be the simpler visit. Neither location makes the loan itself more affordable.
It can be useful for someone who works or lives near Chinatown, the CBD or nearby MRT lines. Sunday opening may also help someone who cannot visit during weekday working hours.
But convenience should remain a practical factor, not the reason you accept terms you cannot manage. Before signing, read the contract and check:
the amount you will actually receive;
the approved rate and how it is calculated;
every permitted fee or deduction;
the monthly instalment and due date;
the total amount repayable; and
the late-payment terms.
The Ministry of Law advises borrowers to shop around, borrow only what they can repay and fully understand the contract, repayment schedule, interest rate and applicable fees.
Best’s current public material advertises rates as low as 1.01% per month (12.12% p.a.), subject to assessment.
Soon Seng’s personal-loan page states that its interest rates range from 1% to 4% per month and says that chargeable fees are capped at 10% of the total loan sum. That is Soon Seng’s published description; the regulator’s separate fee rules are set out below.
PickMeALoan describes itself as a free comparison platform and says it earns referral fees from providers, not borrowers. A PickMeALoan review page describes an indicative personal-loan range of 2.5% to 4%. Treat that as comparison-platform information, not an independent price assessment.
Those figures should not be combined into one “winner” table. They come from different pages and descriptions. Best’s figure is a low starting advertisement. Soon Seng’s official page gives a range, while the third-party review gives another observed range. The numbers are not personal offers and may not use identical assumptions.
Read the actual offer from each lender and compare the same points:
monthly rate versus annual rate;
flat-rate versus reducing-balance calculation;
amount disbursed after permitted charges;
monthly instalment;
total repayment;
late-payment interest and fees; and
repayment period.
A lower advertised starting point does not guarantee that every borrower receives it. A wider published range does not automatically mean the final cost will be higher or lower for you.
It gives a borrower more information to start with. Soon Seng’s own page publishes a 1% to 4% monthly range, while the PickMeALoan review describes a 2.5% to 4% personal-loan range.
However, published information is only useful when you understand what it means. Ask which part of the range may apply to your circumstances, how the rate is calculated, what fees apply and what the total repayment will be. Then read the contract carefully before deciding.
Best’s public page also gives a starting rate, but the same rule applies: the advertised number is not a personal approval or a guaranteed price.
Soon Seng says it has integrated Singpass MyInfo into its application process and provides a central office for the authorised lender appointment. Its personal-loan page describes an unsecured loan process and says applicants may need identity and income documents.
Best’s current site describes applying through Singpass MyInfo, an assessment, an appointment and the required verification before any approved disbursement follows the agreed terms.
The process should be understood as separate steps:
Submit the information needed for assessment.
Wait for the lender’s response or indication.
Attend face-to-face identity verification at the approved office.
Read the contract and ask questions about anything unclear.
Sign only after you understand the amount, costs and repayment schedule.
Receive any approved funds according to the contract.
Any timing stated by a lender is a published claim, not a promise that every application will be approved or paid out within that time.
Soon Seng’s public site lists several loan categories, including personal, payday, business, debt-consolidation, Grab/Gojek, wedding, renovation, medical, study and bridging loans.
That range may matter if your borrowing need is specific. It still does not mean every product is suitable for every borrower. Business, short-term and debt-consolidation borrowing can have different costs and risks from an ordinary personal loan.
If you are considering a product other than a personal loan, read the product-specific contract, repayment schedule and fees rather than assuming the personal-loan information applies.
No. The review page describes a near-perfect 5.0 rating and close to 4,000 Google reviews. Those are review-page observations, not an independent audit and not proof that all borrowers have the same experience.
Reviews can help you identify questions to ask. They cannot establish that a lender will approve your application, offer a particular rate or suit your repayment ability.
Best’s article is also not an independent review because Best publishes it and is one of the lenders compared. Treat all lender-published and platform-published review material as supporting context, not a guarantee.
The Ministry of Law states that licensed moneylenders may charge interest up to 4% per month, late interest up to 4% per month on the overdue amount, a late fee of up to $60 per month and an upfront administrative fee of up to 10% of the principal. Total charges on a loan cannot exceed an amount equivalent to the principal.
Before applying or visiting:
Check the legal name, licence number, approved address and official website against the current Ministry of Law Registry.
Be especially careful when the lender’s own page and the Registry show different licence information, as they currently do for Soon Seng.
Use official contact routes rather than unsolicited loan messages.
Never share your Singpass password or one-time codes.
Read the contract, repayment schedule, fees and late-payment terms.
Do not make unexplained advance payments outside the legitimate loan process.
Keep your own copies of the application, contract and repayment records.
The Registry says borrowers should not borrow from unlicensed moneylenders and should verify that a moneylender appears on the official list.
Best may suit you if you:
prefer the North Bridge Road location;
want a central office and Monday-to-Saturday schedule;
are comparing both lenders’ actual approved offers for the same amount, tenure, calculation basis and fees; or
value the step-by-step information on Best’s current public site.
Soon Seng Credit may suit you if you:
prefer the Chinatown location at People’s Park Complex;
need Sunday access during the stated 11am to 4.30pm hours;
want to review a published personal-loan rate range; or
have a specific borrowing need covered by one of its listed loan categories.
These are possible fits, not promises. The current Registry, the contract and your repayment ability matter more than a marketing label or review score.
Ask the same questions of both lenders:
What amount will I actually receive?
What is the approved monthly rate and calculation method?
What fees or deductions apply?
What is the monthly instalment?
What is the total amount I will repay?
When is each instalment due?
What happens if I pay late?
Where will face-to-face verification and signing happen?
What repayment methods are available?
Who should I contact if I do not understand the contract?
If the answer is unclear, pause and read the contract again. You do not need to choose a lender simply because the branch is convenient or the process sounds quick.
There is no universal winner.
Best may be the more convenient fit for someone who prefers North Bridge Road and a central, Monday-to-Saturday process. Soon Seng Credit may be more convenient for someone who prefers Chinatown, Sunday access or a published personal-loan range.
The licence-number discrepancy makes one final check particularly important: at the 27 August 2026 check, the 1 August 2026 Registry listed Soon Seng under licence 66/2026, while its contact page displayed 61/2025. Verify the current Registry and approved address before proceeding.
Then compare the actual amount received, rate, permitted fees, instalments, total repayment and late-payment terms. Read the contract and decide only if the repayment fits your circumstances.
